Head to head

Tractive vs Pawfit: which dog GPS tracker should you buy in the UK?

Tractive vs Pawfit is the head to head UK owners ask us about most, and it is one of the few we can ground in units we own: the Tractive DOG 6 and the Pawfit 3s are both on our dogs' collars right now. This page compares what each costs to buy and run in the UK, what the makers claim, and where our bench measurements will slot in as our current test cycle completes.

The short answer

Both trackers do the core job: a SIM inside, a live map in the app, and a collar mounted box that tells you where your dog is. Both sit on our best dog GPS trackers shortlist, and the full stories are in our Tractive DOG 6 review and our Pawfit 3s review.

The differences that actually decide the purchase are commercial, not technical. Pawfit is UK friendly: a sterling storefront, cheap long term plans, and simple pricing. Tractive is the bigger operation with the slicker app, but it treats the UK oddly: no UK website, euro billing for subscriptions, and hardware sold in sterling only through its official eBay UK shop.

One housekeeping note before the detail: our bench Pawfit unit is the 3s, which Pawfit has now removed from its official store. The current equivalent is the Pawfit 3, the same family of device, and the 3s is still sold on Amazon.co.uk. Where prices matter below, we use the Pawfit 3, because that is what you can buy direct today.

Price and where to buy in the UK

Checked 29 August 2026, on official sources only.

Tractive DOG 6. tractive.com has no UK locale, so UK visitors get the European site with the DOG 6 at €69 and subscriptions priced in euros. The only official sterling route is Tractive's eBay UK shop, which listed the DOG 6 at £59 when we checked. Worth knowing if you are signing up for years: Tractive was acquired by the Italian group Bending Spoons in May 2026, so the company behind your subscription has new owners.

Pawfit 3 and 3s. pawfit.com/en-gb sells the Pawfit 3 at £54.99, on sale at £46.74 when we checked, and the smaller Pawfit Lite at £42 (sale £37.80). The Pawfit 3s, our bench unit, is delisted from the official store but still available on Amazon.co.uk, and existing 3s units remain supported in the app. Amazon pricing moves around, so we do not quote a number for it here.

Neither tracker does anything without a plan. Tractive Basic runs from €13 billed monthly down to a €5 a month equivalent on the two year term; Premium (€8, €6 or €5 a month on one, two or five year terms) has no monthly billing at all. Pawfit Basic runs from £5.79 billed monthly down to £3.39 a month on the longest term, with Premium at £3.99 to £6.79. Full breakdowns are in our Tractive subscription cost guide.

What each costs over three years

Subscriptions decide this comparison more than hardware does. Here is the honest multi year arithmetic, using the current buyable Pawfit 3 and the DOG 6 at its official eBay UK price.

Our arithmetic from published prices on pawfit.com, tractive.com (geo served euro pricing) and the official Tractive eBay UK shop, all checked 29 August 2026. Tractive bills subscriptions in euros, so the sterling total depends on your card's exchange rate on each billing date.
RouteDevicePlan rateYear 1 totalYear 3 total
Pawfit 3, Basic monthly£54.99£5.79/mo£124.47£263.43
Pawfit 3, Basic long term£54.99£3.39/mo£95.67£177.03
Tractive DOG 6, Basic monthly£59€13/mo£59 + €156£59 + €468
Tractive DOG 6, Basic 1 year plan£59€84/yr£59 + €84£59 + €252

Two things stand out. First, Pawfit's long term Basic plan makes it clearly cheaper over three years, and every payment is in sterling. Second, Tractive's monthly plan is a poor deal: €13 a month is nearly treble the two year rate, so commit to a term or pick something else. If you want the full market picture, including trackers with no monthly fees, see our dog GPS tracker cost guide.

Tracking, apps and day to day use

From our time with both on real dogs: the two apps cover the same basics well. Live map, location history, activity summaries and virtual fences are present on both. Tractive's app is the more polished of the two, with a cleaner map view and a bigger ecosystem behind it. Pawfit's app is plainer but gets you to the live view quickly, and the 3s adds a small on collar speaker for audible recall cues, which Tractive has no answer to (the walkthrough is in our Pawfit 3s review).

Tractive's headline battery feature is Power Saving Zones: teach the tracker your home wifi and it sleeps when the dog is inside, which is how the claimed figure stretches from 6 days to 2 weeks. It works as described in our day to day use so far, but the claimed numbers are Tractive's, not ours, until our bench data lands.

In progress on our bench: side by side battery runtimes, GPS trace comparison from our standard route, and stopwatch latency for live updates in both apps. All dated when they land.

How to decide

Our decision list, based on owning and using both:

  • Choose Pawfit if you want the lowest running cost (£3.39 a month long term), sterling billing throughout, a UK storefront, or the audible recall speaker.
  • Choose Tractive if you want the more refined app, Power Saving Zones for battery stretch, or you are already in the Tractive ecosystem, and euro billing does not bother you.
  • Choose neither if subscriptions are the dealbreaker. PitPat's £149 GPS tracker has genuinely no monthly fees; our comparison with Tractive is in PitPat vs Tractive, and the wider field is in our no subscription trackers guide.
  • For very small dogs, look at lighter hardware first: Tractive itself recommends the 39 g DOG 6 only for dogs above 4 kg.

If we had to hand a lead and one tracker to a friend today: the Pawfit, on the long term plan, for most owners. The Tractive DOG 6 remains the better product to live with if the extra running cost and euro billing do not put you off.

Questions owners actually ask

Is Pawfit cheaper than Tractive in the UK?

Pawfit is cheaper than Tractive for most UK owners. A Pawfit 3 costs £54.99 with Basic plans from £3.39 a month, roughly £177 over three years. Tractive's DOG 6 is £59 via its official eBay UK shop, but subscriptions bill in euros, about €252 over three years on the one year plan.

Can you still buy the Pawfit 3s?

The Pawfit 3s has been removed from the official pawfit.com store, which now sells the Pawfit 3 (£54.99, on sale at £46.74 as of 29 August 2026) and the Pawfit Lite. The 3s is still listed on Amazon.co.uk, and existing units remain supported in the Pawfit app.

Do Tractive and Pawfit both require a subscription?

Yes, both Tractive and Pawfit trackers do nothing without a subscription, because each relies on a mobile data connection. Tractive Basic runs from €13 billed monthly down to a €5 a month equivalent on two year terms. Pawfit Basic runs from £5.79 monthly down to £3.39 a month long term.

Does Tractive have an official UK store?

Tractive has no UK web store: tractive.com serves UK visitors its European site with prices in euros, listing the DOG 6 at €69 when we checked on 29 August 2026. The company does run an official eBay UK shop, where the DOG 6 was listed at £59 in sterling on the same date.

Which is better for a small dog, Tractive or Pawfit?

For very small dogs, neither of the two units on our bench is ideal: Tractive recommends the 39 g DOG 6 for dogs above 4 kg, and the Pawfit 3s is a similar class of device. Pawfit's own Pawfit Lite (£42) is marketed as the smallest option, though we have not tested it yet.
