Tractive Cat Tracker: What UK Cat Owners Should Know
The Tractive cat tracker question lands on our desk constantly, and it is a slightly awkward one for us. We run a dog GPS tracker review site. We test on dogs, not cats. But so many readers hunting for Tractive's cat model end up on our Tractive coverage that dodging the question felt worse than answering it carefully.
We have not tested this device ourselves yet. Everything on this page is verified from official sources, dated, and clearly separated from opinion. Where our hands-on Tractive DOG 6 experience genuinely transfers to the cat model, we say so. Where it does not, we say that too.
What the Tractive cat tracker actually is in 2026
Tractive currently sells one cat model, the CAT 6 Mini, the cat-shaped sibling of the DOG 6. Unlike the dog unit, which clips onto a collar you already own, this Tractive GPS cat tracker is built into its own collar. The electronics curve around the neck rather than hanging off it, and the collar carries a safety release plus small LED lights for spotting your cat after dark.
One naming trap first. If you searched for a Tractive CAT Mini review, that is the previous model. Some retailers still sell the CAT Mini, so check the box carefully before you pay. The CAT 6 Mini adds heart and respiratory rate monitoring and the newer collar-integrated design.
| Spec | Verified detail |

| Weight | 32 g incl. collar |
| Dimensions | 95 × 20 × 13 mm |
| Cat weight range | 3-8 kg |
| Neck circumference | 19-22.9 cm |
| Battery claim | Up to 7 days with Power Saving Zones, up to 4 without |

| Positioning | GPS, GLONASS, Galileo |
| Extras | Heart and respiratory rate monitoring, LEDs, safety-release collar |

Two spec-sheet observations, clearly labelled as opinion. The 7-day battery figure leans on Power Saving Zones being set up around your home WiFi, and Tractive's own page drops it to 4 days without them. And 3 to 8 kg covers most adult moggies while ruling kittens out completely.
What our DOG 6 testing does and does not tell you
The DOG 6 lives on a real dog's collar while our structured test cycle runs. Our DOG 6 review tracks that work as it happens, and our testing method explains what tested means on this site. The useful news for cat owners is that Tractive runs one platform. Same app. Same plans. Same servers.
What genuinely carries over from our DOG 6 experience:
- The app. Live tracking mode, the map, escape alerts, sharing with family, location history. A CAT 6 Mini owner uses the identical app we use daily.
- Power Saving Zones. WiFi home zones that spare the battery. We set these up on the DOG 6 and the logic is unchanged.
- Billing. Euro pricing, plan tiers, upfront term payments, auto-renewal behaviour. Our subscription findings apply to the cat model in full.
- Update quirks. Position refresh behaviour and what to do when the map goes stale. Our notes on Tractive not updating location are platform level, not dog specific.
What does not carry over:
- GPS accuracy on a cat. Cats hug the ground, tuck under hedges and sit in sheds. That is close to a worst case for GPS reception. Our open-field dog measurements, still in progress, will say nothing about it either.
- Real battery life. A roaming cat that drifts in and out of WiFi range will drain the battery differently from a walked dog. We have no data.
- The collar itself. The integrated safety release is new hardware we have never handled.

UK price and plans: the euro billing quirk
Here is the quirk that surprises UK buyers. Tractive has no UK storefront and no GBP pricing. Visit tractive.com from Britain and you get the English-language European store, priced in euros. The CAT 6 Mini costs €69 there, your card provider handles the conversion, and many banks add a small foreign transaction fee on top. If you would rather pay in pounds for the hardware, Tractive's official eBay UK shop lists in GBP and Amazon UK carries Tractive stock, though prices on both float.
The tracker is only half the bill. Nothing works without a subscription, and the plans are billed in euros too:
| Plan | Monthly | 1 year | 2 years | 5 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | €13 | €7 | €5 | Not offered |
| Premium | Not offered | €8 | €6 | €5 |
There is no monthly Premium. The low headline rates come from long commitments, and each term is billed upfront in one lump. Our full breakdown of the tiers, renewal behaviour and cancellation steps is in the Tractive subscription cost guide. It was written from our own DOG 6 billing history, and every word applies to the CAT 6 Mini because the plans are identical across devices.
Cat tracker with no subscription in the UK: the honest answer
Plenty of readers arrive here after searching for a cat tracker with no subscription in the UK, so let us be plain. Tractive is not that product. No subscription, no tracking. The CAT 6 Mini has no free tier, no pay-once mode and no offline fallback, and we explain the mechanics in Tractive without a subscription.
So what actually exists for subscription-averse cat owners?
- Bluetooth tags such as the AirTag. No subscription, but no GPS either. They rely on passing iPhones, which works on residential streets and fails in fields. On a cat they are useful for finding a nearby hider and poor at tracking a genuine wanderer. Our AirTag vs GPS tracker comparison covers the trade-off in detail.
- Pay-once GPS units. These exist, but the credible ones are built for dogs, with dog-sized batteries and dog-sized weights. Our no-subscription tracker guide lists them. None is a sensible thing to hang on a 4 kg cat.
Our desk-research view: there is currently no no-subscription GPS option for cats that we would call good. An AirTag on a proper breakaway collar is the pragmatic budget choice for a cat that stays near houses. For a real roamer, a subscription GPS tracker is the only tool that does the job.

Cat-specific fit and collar safety
This is where dog thinking must not be copied onto cats. Cats are different. Two things matter more than any GPS spec.
Weight and fit. Tractive rates the CAT 6 Mini for cats of 3 to 8 kg with necks of 19 to 22.9 cm. Take the lower bound seriously. On a 3 kg cat, the 32 g tracker-and-collar package is already more than one percent of body weight carried on the neck. Kittens and very small adults sit outside the stated range, and no clever mounting changes that.
The safety release. Cats squeeze through fences, climb trees and push through brambles. A collar that cannot break away can snag and injure, which is why vets consistently recommend quick-release designs for cats. Tractive builds a safety release into the CAT 6 Mini collar, and on paper that is one of the model's genuine cat-first decisions. What we cannot tell you is how the mechanism performs in practice, how much force it needs, or whether it releases cleanly at awkward angles. We have never handled one. That is bench territory, and this device has not been on our bench.
A firm word on improvisation: do not strap a DOG 6 onto a cat collar. It weighs 39 g before the collar, Tractive rates it for dogs above 4 kg, and its clip mount was never designed to sit on breakaway hardware.

Alternatives for cats in the UK
Two cat-capable rivals deserve a look before you decide, plus one clarification about a brand we actually own and run.
- Weenect XS. A 27 g tracker sold in a cat edition for £39.99, with GBP billing and long-term plans from £3.67 a month (verified 29 August 2026). It is lighter than the CAT 6 Mini and cheaper to buy, and you escape the euro conversion entirely. Our Weenect XS desk research page has the verified pricing and full plan table.
- Pawfit Lite. Pawfit's cat model, listed at under 18 g for the tracker itself and shipped with a breakaway safety collar. A subscription is required, as with Tractive. We know the brand through the dog-focused Pawfit 3s, which is on our bench now, but the Lite is a different, smaller device we have not tested.
Notice the pattern. Every credible GPS option for cats needs a subscription. The real choice is between euro billing with Tractive's mature app, GBP billing with Weenect's lighter and cheaper hardware, or Pawfit's featherweight unit from a brand whose dog tracker sits on our bench while its test cycle runs.
Who should buy the Tractive CAT 6 Mini
Buy the CAT 6 Mini if your cat sits comfortably inside the 3 to 8 kg range, you want the most mature pet tracking app we use, and euro billing does not put you off. It makes extra sense if there is already a Tractive dog tracker in the house, because one app and one billing relationship then covers both animals.
Look elsewhere if your cat is small or still growing, since the Weenect XS covers lighter animals with GBP pricing. Walk away entirely if you refuse subscriptions. Tractive will never suit you. And if what you want is a tested verdict rather than verified specs, that page does not exist yet, from us or, honestly, from most sites that claim otherwise.
When that changes, it will be logged. Our testing log records what enters the queue and when, and this page will be rewritten from bench notes the day we have them. Until then you have the facts, the dates and the sources, plus our clearly labelled opinion of what they add up to.

Questions owners actually ask
Does the Tractive cat tracker work without a subscription?
No. The CAT 6 Mini needs an active Tractive subscription for all tracking, with Basic plans from €13 monthly or €5 a month equivalent on a two-year term (verified 29 August 2026). Without a plan the hardware does nothing useful. There is no pay-once mode for any Tractive device.
What is the current Tractive cat tracker model in 2026?
The current model is the Tractive CAT 6 Mini, priced at €69 on tractive.com as of 29 August 2026. It is a GPS tracker built into a safety-release collar for cats of 3 to 8 kg. The older CAT Mini is a previous model that some retailers still sell.
Is the Tractive CAT 6 Mini safe for small cats?
Tractive rates it for cats weighing 3 to 8 kg with necks of 19 to 22.9 cm, so kittens and very small adults are excluded. The collar has a built-in safety release, which matters for cats that squeeze through fences. We have not tested the release mechanism ourselves.
Can I put a Tractive DOG 6 on my cat instead?
We advise against it. The DOG 6 weighs 39 g before you add a collar, Tractive rates it for dogs above 4 kg, and its clip mount is not designed for breakaway cat collars. The CAT 6 Mini exists precisely because cats need lighter, safety-release hardware.
Can UK buyers pay for Tractive in pounds?
Not on tractive.com, which has no UK storefront and bills in euros for both the tracker and the subscription. Your bank converts each payment and may add a foreign transaction fee. Tractive's official eBay UK shop lists hardware in GBP, but subscriptions are always billed in euros.
